Ground School

Your aviation home in the north.

We are your home for training, flight school, and travel to & from the cottage.

We are currently accepting registrations for our next RPP/PPL ground school that will commence Fall 2023. Price is $625.00 for Ground School kit and Instruction.

CONTACT 905-679-5577 to register.

You can read the FAQ below and/or call 905-679-5577 for more information on the program.

You are able to start flight training before you start Ground School.

When does it start/what are the days?

TBA – we will have a Fall 2023 start. We typically run ground school one night a week in virtual or in-person setting, depending on demand, for 18 weeks. We will meet and exceed Transport Canada’s minimum hours requirement.

Where will it be held?

Depending on demand and location of students, ground school may be held virtually or in-person.

What is the cost?

The cost is $625*+ HST for the training including your Ground School kit (flight bag, textbooks, and flight planning supplies). There are additional resources and upgrades that can be purchased at NNA, but the standard kit will include all the books, tools, and supplies to take you through your ground school training. *(Price is subject to change).

A $250 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration to hold your spot and procure your materials. We cannot reserve your seat until the deposit is paid. The balance is due the week before Ground School starts.

All students will also be required to have their own POH for the aircraft they are training on. If you are unsure of the aircraft at this time, you can purchase them in the office. The cost depends on the aircraft.

When will I get my materials?

Usually within a week of the class start.

Are there any prerequesites?

Not for Ground School, but since you are planning on flight training, we highly suggest you get your Aviation Medical done as soon as possible due to extended processing delays at Transport Canada. You don’t need a medical to start training, but you do need one to solo. If you get to the “solo” point before your medical has been approved, it will delay your training.  If you require more information on this, please contact us at 905-679-5577 or at info@nearnorthaviation.com and we’re happy to answer your questions.

What happens if I miss a class? Will they be recorded?

Due to Transport Canada regulations and the authorization process of Ground School hours, classes are not recorded and you are expected to attend. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let your instructor know as soon as possible so an alternative plan can be arranged.

We welcome Ground School students to sit in on future Ground School cohorts for review when needed.

Recording of classes is strictly prohibited.

Our goal is to develop competent, safe aviators in a supportive learning environment. If you have further questions about reaching your aviation goals, please call 905-679-5577.
