About Us

Near North Aviation is a Transport Canada approved Flight Training Unit with operations at both the Parry Sound Airport and Grand River Executive Airport (York). Our dual locations combine the beauty of Ontario’s treasured landscapes with the practicality of training in diverse airspace environments.

Students benefit from the calm focus of low-traffic skies while also gaining valuable experience in controlled, high-density airspace only minutes away. This balance ensures that by the time students are ready for their flight test, they are confident and capable in every type of flying environment.

RPP

Recreational Pilot Licence

Intended for individuals who wish to fly for recreation or as a hobby and represents the quickest and most affordable pathway into aviation.

PPL

Private Pilot Licence

Designed for those who want to fly recreationally, without the restrictions of the Recreational Pilot Permit.

CPL

Commercial Pilot Licence

Designed for those who want to pursue a career as a pilot. Holders of a CPL may become flight instructors or obtain their Airline Transport Pilot Licence.

MER

Multi-Engine Rating

Designed for pilots who wish to expand their skills and operate an aircraft equipped with more than one engine.

IFR

Instrument Flight Rules

Learning to fly in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) with a private licence can expand the use of your aircraft and your ability to fly to more destinations.

NR

Night Rating

The Night Rating on a Private Pilot Licence allows the holder to fly during the hours of darkness under Visual Flight Rules.

VFR OTT

VFR Over-The-Top Rating

Designed for private pilots who want the ability to fly in more challenging weather situations. This training is included in all Commercial Pilot Licence programs.
