Flight Safety

Near North is committed to maintaining a high level of safety in all its operations. One of the most important aspects of safety are pilots who are current. Near North graduates are responsible for maintaining their own 24-Month Recency as specified in Canadian Aviation Regulations 421.05.

Keeping Your Medical Current

  • A Recreational Pilot permit requires a Category 4 medical, which must be renewed every five years.
  • A Private Pilot licence requires a Category 3 medical, which must be renewed every 5 years (or every two years if you are over 40).
  • A Commercial Pilot licence requires a Category 1 medical, which must be renewed annually (or every 6 months if your are over 40).
  • A complete list of Transport Canada authorized Aviation Medical Examiners may be found here.

Dangerous Goods

Welcome to the Near North Aviation guidelines on the carriage of dangerous goods. This resource is designed to inform both crew and passengers about the specifics of transporting allowable dangerous goods on board.

Our reference table provides a summary of goods that may be carried, subject to compliance with the allowable quantities and carriage methods. The safety and security of our flights are paramount. To this end, the Pilot is tasked with ensuring that all cargo, including dangerous goods, is loaded in accordance with the Provisions & Limitations Table. This serves as our initial guide to safe transportation.

Further guidance on handling these materials may require consulting the IATA Dangerous Goods Manual, specifically the TAB-2 Limitations. Despite adherence to these guidelines, the Pilot retains the authority to refuse carriage of goods if deemed necessary for safety.

For more detailed information, please refer to the Dangerous Goods Document.

Your cooperation and adherence to these guidelines ensure a safe and secure flight experience for all aboard Near North Aviation.
